Nearly 1,000 probes are tiled across the SARS-CoV-2 genome such that they overlap, but each have a unique binding site. As new variants rapidly emerge, this probe redundancy protects the assay from dropouts. Because of this feature, the first Molecular Loop assay developed against the native SARS-CoV-2 strain has proven to have the robustness to ensure comprehensive coverage of all variants that have emerged since 2019.
